Sony Interactive Entertainment President/CEO Jim Ryan was recently interviewed by the Chinese technical publication TMTPost, where he said the company is only really interested in making “best games” because players don’t remember “okay games”; one is Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, according to Jim Ryan.

Not as often as I’d like, but I do play as often as I can. I’m currently playing Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. As I said before, this game stimulated my specific emotions and made me happy. For me this is the best game. I usually prefer slower games, usually in single player mode which requires me to think carefully and deeply. These are the emotions you encounter when playing games, and can also reach users who like Hollywood movies.

When the interviewer asked him about his favorite game from the past year or so, he chose this particular PlayStation 5 exclusive. He also wondered about future first-party titles, suggesting that this is just the beginning of taking advantage of the PS5’s hardware.

Personally, I think it’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, my favorite and most fun game of the past year. While not a slow game, the fun and performance of the console really surprised me. I think if our team can launch such a best game within half a year of PS5 launch, what about three or four years later? I feel very excited when I think about this.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is indeed a great game, at least according to our Chris Wray who scored it 9.5/10.

Through excellent storytelling, superb visuals and gripping gameplay, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart proves to be an engaging, fun, funny and thoroughly enjoyable return to the series. It also offers the introduction of two brand new characters who could arguably be the protagonists of their own spin-off, or at least return to future installments in the series. For fans and new players alike, this is a game I would recommend to anyone and a true showcase of the kind of titles we can expect for the new generation.
