PlayStation images found in Netflix app code, fueling speculation about major partnership

Recent articles

Netflix has made it clear that they are preparing to enter the world of gaming and recently hired Mike Verdu, a veteran of EA, Zynga and Oculus, to lead their gaming division. It’s said that Netflix could start offering video games to their subscribers as early as next year, and it looks like they could have a pretty big partner in line: PlayStation.

Recently, data miner Steve Moser claimed to have found several rather interesting files in the Netflix iOS app – a logo for “N Game”, a shark fin icon (the game imitation of Netflix is said to be codenamed “Shark”) and … images of the DualSense controller and Ghost of Tsushima’s PS5.

We don’t know why these PlayStation images were in the code of the Netflix app, of course. It can be nothing! That said, could this be the first hint of a Netflix-PlayStation partnership? Partnering with the largest streaming platform in the world could be a great way for Sony to immediately become competitive with Xbox Game Pass. We should also keep in mind that the two companies are already working together as Netflix has the first streaming rights to all Sony Pictures movies, including the upcoming Uncharted movie.

We don’t really know at this point how Netflix plans to provide games. Some have suggested that they just offer downloads instead of full game streaming, although that would be an odd choice for a company built entirely on streaming. I think we’ll have to wait and see.

What do you think? Will there be a Netflix-PlayStation partnership? Would you be thrilled if it were?
