Sony Interactive Entertainment partnered with Studios for several years before the acquisition

Unlike its biggest rival, Sony Interactive Entertainment has carefully selected studios it will acquire, hence the low number. It prides itself on choosing only those who have released top quality titles over the years they’ve worked together.

SIE CEO and President Jim Ryan recently shared some insight in an exclusive interview with media outlet TMTPost about acquiring studios to work among them.

Ryan revealed that many of their studios have grown naturally over the years and have been working with them for a long time. They want these studios to grow naturally to polish them to greater heights without any pressure from anyone above, hence the top quality content they release.

“For example, in 2019 we acquired Insomniac Games and many years ago we also acquired Guerrilla Games and Sucker Punch,” Ryan shared as examples of studios they have collaborated and acquired. “One of the similarities of these acquired studios is that we had a working relationship with them for a number of years before the acquisition, which means we understand them better.”

With their long working relationships with the studios, SIE knows all of their work ethic, operations, benefits and capabilities, the areas to improve and more. The most important factor they need before getting their hands on that particular studio is to get to know them better first. They don’t want to take over studios that there is little knowledge about.

Other than that, SIE and those studios have already built trust, making it easier to just merge with them.
