It came as a shock in 2019 when it was announced that Ruby Rose would be leaving the title role in The CW’s batwoman series after a single season, and while her departure was rumored to be “not 100% her decision”, we never really got an official reason behind her departure.
Rose has previously suggested that the combination of a taxing schedule, a back injury and the coronavirus pandemic all contributed to the decision, and now the Australian actress has revealed on KIIS De Kyle and Jackie O Show that she also discovered that she was allergic to the latex costume – specifically the latex mask.
“I found out I was allergic to latex,” Rose said. “Unfortunately my mask is latex. It got progressively worse for me because the more you interact with it, the more responses I think you get. I did the out [mask] at the end, and my face was just hives. My throat was all confused. It was like it came out of a scary movie.”
Rose was written out of the show after the first season, with Javicia Leslie taking over as the newly created character Ryan Wilder. Although Rose subsequently indicated that she was open to returning as Kate Kane, the role was eventually recast during the second season with krypton actress Wallis Day joins the show to wrap up Kate’s story.
