In addition to the upcoming TV series adaptation at Amazon, iwot productions and Radar Pictures have begun work on a planned feature film trilogy set in the world of Robert Jordan’s best-selling book series. The wheel of time, to tap Thor and X-Men: First Class screenwriter Zack Stentz writes the first part, titled Age of Legends.
By due date, Age of Legends “will be set several millennia before the time of the books, in a period known as the ‘Age of Legends’ – a futuristic utopia powered by a magical power shared by men and women known as the ‘One Power’ ‘. When an unspeakable evil is unleashed upon the world, civilization falls into chaos and the world is covered by war. When men using the One Power go insane and destroy much of the planet, a small group of women unite beneath the White Tower and are humanity’s last hope for survival.”
“I have been a fan of Robert Jordan’s work for many years, especially his allusions to the origins and backstory of The wheel of time which I have always found most intriguing. I’m excited to bring this era of Robert Jordan to life,” said Stentz (via Deadline), “A fusion of the fantasy and science fiction genres, the Age of Legends is a story of paradise lost as a futuristic Garden of Eden turns into a dangerous and broken world.”
“We are fortunate to have an accomplished storyteller like Zack Stentz. His ability to portray unforgettable characters who possess great powers while being susceptible to everyday human imperfections make him the ideal writer to bring this monumental story to an international audience.” ,” added Rick Selvage of iwot productions, who along with Iwot’s Larry Mondragon and Ted Field and Justin Smith of Radar Pictures are producing both the film and TV series.
There is no word yet on a studio and distributor for the film(s), but The wheel of time series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon Studios. It is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video streaming service later this year and has already been renewed for a second season.
