Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch is Complete, According to Insider

Metroid fans were pleasantly surprised at this year’s E3 when Metroid Dread was announced. They never thought there would come a day when they would wait for not one, but two new Metroid games. With still no gameplay info on Metroid Prime 4, it’s still a long way to go. However, a Metroid Prime Trilogy port for Switch is presumably on the way.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is supposedly ready to go

According to industry insider Jeff Grubb, a Switch port of Metroid Prime Trilogy is ready to go. Nintendo just decides the best time to release it.

“The game is out and Nintendo is holding it… whether Nintendo releases it now or later depends on other factors… I think the game is in their pocket for when Nintendo decides it’s the right time , and Nintendo has been doing this a lot lately so it’s not unusual, it’s not a sign that something bad is happening, it’s not a sign of a lack of faith in Metroid… Nintendo can afford it [to sit on it] and that’s how they treat it.”

“I think a big problem for Nintendo for quite some time during the pandemic was QA… I think Nintendo focused its quality assurance resources on one or two big projects at a time and that meant some games that were basically ready were on the sidelines. , while they had their locked safe QA processes focused on one or two other major games… Japan is still dealing with these issues, so I don’t think those processes will open anytime soon.

“The other factor for Metroid Prime Trilogy is that it will almost certainly be a marketing hit for Metroid Prime 4. So right now we are getting Metroid Dread this year and then I can imagine the Metroid Prime trilogy is something they will release near the release of Metroid Prime 4, whenever that is.”

Jeff Grubb via Gigantic bomb show (paywall)

Jeff Grubb said earlier this year that there will be more 35th Anniversary Zelda announcements later this year. Nintendo has indeed unveiled the Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda system. However, there was no news about other Zelda ports, which we were hoping for.

Grubb was right when he said Bethesda’s Starfield would appear at E3 2021. Although, that could also be a lucky guess.

Former developer on Metroid Prime on the possibility of a port

A few months ago, Michael Wikan stated that a port of Metroid Prime 3 would “take a lot of effort”.

Michael Wikan worked on the games before leaving Retro Studios in 2011. While he’s skeptical of the prospect, it’s not an impossible feat.

He has stated that it will simply be a matter of how much Nintendo is willing to put in the port. Since he hasn’t been part of the company for about a decade, they may have other transfer methods that he’s now aware of.

If what industry insider Jeff Grubb said is true, it will be quite exciting to see a Metroid Prime Trilogy port for the Nintendo Switch in anticipation of Metroid Prime 4. The best timing is probably some time after Metroid Dread has been released and before Metroid Prime 4 is released.

Please note that Nintendo itself has not said anything about a Metroid Prime Trilogy port. So take Grubb’s statements with a grain of salt.
