Nintendo has said it currently has no plans to launch another new Switch model and has stated that recent reports on Switch’s OLED profit margin are incorrect.
After announcing the Nintendo Switch OLED earlier this month, several sources said the Kyoto-based company may launch another upgraded Switch model, the Switch Pro, at a later date. Some analysts said the Switch OLED could be more of an intermediate model as Nintendo waits for the completion of Breath of the Wild 2 and the end of component shortages.
The upcoming Switch OLED will feature an all-new and larger OLED display alongside a redesigned dock with built-in LAN port. Furthermore, the new model will not contain major hardware improvements. As discussed last week, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo will improve profit margins on the new model as it will only cost them about $10 more per unit.
Now Nintendo is betting that momentum can be sustained with a new $350 model, a jump from the original $300 standard model price tag, and a rejection of traditional console economy.” Bloomberg wrote:. “The upgrades are estimated to cost about $10 more per unit, meaning Nintendo is improving profit margins and relying on its rich library of games to keep sales going.”
Nintendo has now stated that this report is not correct, although it did not provide any real numbers. In addition, the company debunked the lingering rumors of a New Nintendo Switch Pro model.
“A news report on July 15, 2021(JST) claimed that the profit margin of the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) would increase compared to the Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo writes on Twitter. “To make sure our investors and customers get a good understanding, we want to make it clear that the claim is false.”
“We also want to clarify that we just announced that Nintendo Switch (OLED model) will be launched in October 2021 and we have no plans to launch another model at this time.
Of course, with Nintendo debunking the Switch Pro rumors, it could still mean we’ll get a new model sometime next year.
The Nintendo Switch OLED will launch on October 8 for $349.99.
