Google is upgrading the software for its Chromecast with Google TV streaming set-top box with a new feature that will solve one of the biggest annoyances for streamers. Chromecast owners will soon receive the new feature, without having to update their gadget.

Google TV finally allows users to remove TV shows and movies from the Continue Watching queue. The idea behind this menu is to show the box sets and movies you haven’t watched yet – so you can dive right back in, without having to search for each individual streaming service. However, if you started watching a movie – but decided it wasn’t for you – it would be in the foreground indefinitely in the Continue Watching queue. That can be incredibly annoying.

From the home screen in Google TV, users can select and delete currently queued television shows and movies. Once deleted, the content will no longer appear unless you start viewing it again.

It is not yet clear when the feature will be rolled out. Currently, some users are sharing photos of the new feature on social media, but others have not yet received the feature. It is likely that the feature will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Google usually spreads the rollout of these new blockbuster features around the world.

It doesn’t matter which streaming services you’re signed up to, the new feature will work anyway. Google TV combines some of the most popular streaming services, including Apple TV+, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube and more. It’s worth noting that while the content will disappear from the queue on this page, it will not be removed from the Continue Watching section in the individual streaming service’s apps.

It’s also worth noting that Android TV, which is older than Google TV and can still be found on some streaming set-top boxes and Smart TVs, has had the function of removing content from your Continue Watching queue for some time now.

With the new feature adding a small but useful improvement to Google TV, it will be interesting to see where Google takes the software next.
