Project 007 is a 3 person action game with sandbox levels and advanced AI technology

Late last year, Hitman developer IO Interactive announced a new game in the James Bond universe tentatively titled Project 007, but few details have been disclosed since then. Sure, it’s easy to imagine what an IO-developed Bond game might look like (the Hitman games were already pretty Bond-esque), but it would be nice to have some more hard information. Well, it looks like some new Project 007 details have slipped out through the IO Interactive career page.

According to a few vacancies for a AI Programmer and Audio Director, Project 007 will be an action-driven third-person “sandbox storytelling game”. It looks like the game will also feature an “advanced” new AI framework, which should make for more vibrant, realistic and dangerous NPCs and enemies. The job postings also generally indicate that knowledge of IO’s past Hitman games will be an asset to anyone applying, which isn’t surprising as it sounds like Project 007 will build on a foundation Hitman has built. That’s certainly not a bad thing! A sandbox Bond game made in the same style as Agent 47’s recent games seems great to me, especially considering how good Hitman 3 was.

Unfortunately, it will probably be a while before we actually see Project 007 in action. Until then, the above details and this official description are all we have…

It’s Bond, James Bond. Project 007 (working title) is a brand new James Bond video game being developed and published by IO Interactive. Featuring an all-original Bond story, players step into the shoes of the world’s favorite secret agent to earn their 00 status in the first-ever James Bond origin story.

Platforms and a release window have not yet been announced for Project 007. What do you think? Excited about what we’re learning about the new Bond game, or would you prefer IO Interactive to do things differently?
