Amazon’s recently launched open beta for its MMO New World has just become problematic with reports of certain video cards closing.
It has been reported from various sources that New World is shutting down certain Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards for some reason. Players have reported critical GPU issues while playing the game. The most common of both the subreddit and forums of the game were PC players who installed EVGA’s FTW3 model 3090.
Twitch streamer Gladd Posted on his official Twitter account that his EVGA 3090 graphics card got “fried” while playing the game. Some suggest that this may be a fault of the card itself.
A Reddit user shared his experience, saying that their graphics card performed just fine, but their partner’s EVGA graphics card crashed multiple times while playing the game. Another user revealed that it ran fine for 30 minutes, but then “the fans suddenly shot up to 100% right after a black screen”. After that, the PC couldn’t recognize the graphics card, meaning it was completely bricked up. It must have felt like a horror scene unfolding before their very eyes as they watched helplessly as their cards died.
Other users revealed that the problem may be the game’s menus. One user said their card was bricked after they set the graphics quality to medium and then hit save. Another user even stated that they heard a loud “pop” and the card shorted out. Some even say it’s the unlimited frame rate and other theories.
EVGA, Nvidia and Amazon have not yet released any statement regarding this crazy issue. The game support FAQ says that the game may cause some graphics cards to suddenly load to 99 percent. For now, the 3,090 card throwing problem as a result of playing New World is still a mystery and no permanent solution is in sight.
