Earlier we reported that the hunt for a new Batgirl was underway. The last we heard was that there were only three choices, and now we’ve learned that they made the last choice.
Leslie Grace will play the role of Batgirl in an upcoming movie for HBO Max. The Wrap initially broke the story and The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the reports.
Leslie Grace was last seen in the musical In the heights. Grace is a Dominican-American and marks the second Latina actress to land a major DC role. She follows Sasha Calle, who stars as Supergirl in Andy Muschietti’s The flash.
The filmmaking duo behind Bad boys for life, Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, directing batgirl for HBO Max. Christina Hodson, who wrote: Birds of prey and The flash, wrote the script.
There’s no word yet on where this will fall in the greater DC Films multiverse, or whether it will be a standalone story or fit into a previously established movie world.
This batgirl film marks the character’s second appearance on the big screen, with Alicia Silverstone previously portraying a version of the character in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin.
Sources close to Warner Bros. note that the film is likely to hit HBO Max in 2023.
