Could a storm approach Wakanda? Fans hope so now that Michaela Coel joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Coel, known for her hit series I can destroy you, joins Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Variety broke the story, but didn’t give any details about who she’ll be playing. The moment the news hit, there was a cry for Coel as the weather-controlling mutant known as Ororo Munroe, aka Storm.
Coel is fresh off multiple Emmy nominations for I can destroy you, in which she serves as writer, director, producer and star. While she briefly appeared in Star Wars: The Last Jedic, this will mark her biggest movie role to date.
Production of the Black Panther sequel, Wakanda forever, began last month at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta.
While plot details are currently being kept secret, Danai Gurira, Letitia Wright, Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, Lupita Nyong’o, Florence Kasumba and Angela Bassett are expected to reprise their respective roles from the original film. Director Ryan Coogler returns to direct the sequel to his screenplay.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled for release on July 8, 2022.
