Netflix has announced that Zack Snyder will return for an Army of the Dead sequel. Snyder’s Stone Quarry Productions, which is partnered with his wife Deborah and Wesley Coller, has signed a new first-look deal with Netflix. THR has reported about this first-look deal.

This announcement comes on the heels of the announcement regarding Synder’s newest film Rebel Moon, a sci-fi adventure for Netflix. THR also reported the news of this upcoming film. Snyder stated that Rebel Moon will come ahead of the Army of the Dead sequel.

In addition to the sequel, the Army-verse will see a prequel, Army of Thieves, in the fall of 2021. This film will focus on the backstory of safecracker Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer), who was in the first film. Set in Europe, this film will show Dieter’s entry into the world of safecracking. This film’s time frame is set at the beginning of the zombie outbreak in America. So, this film will be in the same universe but won’t feature the zombie element.

The anime series Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas is also in production, with a projected release date of spring 2022.

Netflix confirms Army of the Dead sequel

Fans of the Army of the Dead zombie/heist film are excited to learn that a sequel will be produced. Don’t expect this sequel to come anytime soon. Snyder is busy with Rebel Moon and other projects.

Although, he is a master at his craft and was able to film Army of Thieves to fans’ surprise. Knowing how Snyder operates, he has probably already started writing the Army of the Dead sequel.

It is exciting to see this franchise develop as it is quite different from most zombie-themed films and shows. Snyder’s zombies are fast, intelligent, and have a hierarchy to their group. It is an interesting and, frankly, much more frightening version of the undead.
