With the live action Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins opening in North American cinemas this week, it has been revealed that the franchise will return to its animated roots next year with the launch of a brand new series.
As reported by fansite hissing tank, the announcement was made at Licensing Con Brazil, with Marcelo Masotti, Hasbro Brazil’s head of licensing, revealing that the as-yet-untitled series will air in 2022, with a second season already in the works for 2023.
While no specific details were revealed, the announcement featured a sizzle reel with a very close look at the character designs for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, described by the site as “brand new and futuristic”.
It’s now been over a decade since we last had a new one GI Joe animated series, and so this news should certainly be intriguing to fans. In the meantime, Hasbro has made most of the classic 80s series GI Joe: A True American Hero last year free to watch on YouTube.
