WhatsApp is giving the UI when making calls within the app a much-needed facelift, but only for those on the iPhone. Millions of people call on WhatsApp every day, so this will surely come in handy for users day in and day out.

The new calling interface is now starting to roll out to users. If it’s not yet available in your app, it might be worth checking the App Store to see if you’re running the latest version of the app.

The new design aims to refresh WhatsApp’s call design and make everyday functions more intuitive. WhatsApp users will now benefit from a new sliding menu that includes the hang up and mute buttons, which will also show everyone who is currently on a call.

If photos of the new design look familiar to you, it’s because the updated design is very similar to FaceTime’s design. The new menu also allows users to quickly add new participants to an ongoing conversation, which was previously not possible. This applies to both voice and video calls.

WhatsApp explained that the updated interface is gradually being rolled out to users, so you may not see it for a while. Unfortunately, if you want to take advantage of the new design, you’ll have to go to the App Store and update the app to version 2.21.140.

It’s also important to note that the exciting design refresh is only coming to iPhones, so Android users will stay out of this.

Also included in the new app update is a new feature that prevents you from being notified for new messages in archived chats. Instead, these notifications will be muted and you will have to manually check for new messages. WhatsApp also adds new sticker suggestions to recommend suitable stickers to send alongside your message.

It’s been a busy few days for WhatsApp, which is comfortably the most popular messaging service in the world. Earlier this week, the Facebook chat app introduced a new feature that allows group chat members to join conversations even if they missed their phone ringing.

Previously, the group had to hang up and call again to let a new participant in. WhatsApp also improved its web and desktop platforms so that you no longer need to connect your phone to the internet to use them.

The latest change in WhatsApp’s call design attempts to make calling more intuitive for everyone using the app. At a time when keeping in touch with loved ones is more important than ever, we welcome all improvements to the messaging app.
