It was a really rough night for most Snapchat users, with the popular chat app suffering from severe gremlins overnight. The problems started around midnight with thousands of fans being affected by a bug that caused the application to crash constantly on both iPhone and Android.

Snapchat immediately admitted that it was having issues with a message on Twitter confirming, “We’re aware of an issue that prevented some Snapchatters from logging in. Hang on, we’re looking into it and working on a fix!”

Nearly five hours after the initial reports started pouring in, Snapchat then announced it had resolved the issue with the support team asking users to update the app on their devices.

A message, again on Twitter, said, “The issue has been resolved. If you’re still having issues, please update your app manually from the App Store!”

That’s great news, we hear you screaming, but it’s not good for everyone. Unfortunately, it seems that many users are following these instructions and still have no luck accessing the app. Twitter is inundated with angry fans tweeting that they still can’t use the app or send Snaps to friends and family.

In response to the Snapchat tweet, one user said, “No it isn’t, my credentials can’t be found. I’ve updated both the app and my phone, restarted my phone, changed my password and reinstalled, but it works. not.”

While another said “I’ve tried everything. it locked me out of my acc for no reason. It lets me in for 1-3 minutes and then kicks me out again which is of no use because if it’s locked why can I still not at all? I can’t create another Snapchat because I can’t get into it once I create”

While many are still struggling, one user thinks they’ve found the solution with a message saying, “So I got it working. I went to the AppStore and instead of clicking open, I clicked the Snapchat logo and it opened it to full screen. update option became available. I have updated it and it works fine. You’re welcome.”

It’s unclear what the best solution is, with some users suggesting that the best way to get everything back to normal is to uninstall and reinstall the app.
