Originally announced in 2019, the officially licensed Led Zeppelin documentary is now ready. Director Bernard MacMahon announced today that the feature film will be called Becoming Led Zeppelin. And for the special project, band members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones granted “unprecedented access.”
This is the first and only time in 50 years that Led Zeppelin has collaborated on a documentary about their band.
MacMahon said, “Becoming Led Zeppelin is a movie no one thought could be made.
“The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was rapid and virtually undocumented.
“Through an intense search around the world and years of restoration of the found visual and audio archive, this story can finally be told.”

While Becoming Led Zeppelin is complete, no release date has been announced yet.
Aside from the three remaining band members who act as talking heads, the documentary film will feature rare archival footage of drummer John Bonham, who died in 1980.
The project comes from the filmmakers behind the award-winning American Epic.
Last week, Plant shared how he dreams about his late son Karac and Bonham.
Early Led Zeppelin
In his podcast Digging Deep, Plant said, “I’ve dreamed that I’ve been back with old friends, very often, like John Bonham, like my father, my son who left when he was five. And they were wonderful moments of great relief.”
The Led Zeppelin singer told host Matt Everitt, “The reason we’re here now is because we both love what we do, and there’s a certain toll and price that comes with it.
“At the same time, it’s much better than accountancy or whatever it’s become.
“But it does create a kind of energy in me that I had to maneuver into another part of my being – subdue it, tuck it into a corner. Because I was always on the go, always planning the next thing.”

Plant also talked about how sometimes he’s been in a great place when he’s sleeping.
The 72-year-old added: “And I’ve gone somewhere, and now I have to get back to where it was and make my way back through these amazing landscapes.”
He also spoke about the good company he had from neighbors during the lockdown.
The star said:[I was] really lucky because my neighbor who lives 30 meters from me – who played with me and Bonzo [Bonham] in the sixties – he’s here. We are part of a pod. And the farmer who was born in my place, whose family owned my house, he’s across the street and we’ve become the best of friends – the card schools that go on forever!’
