Diablo Immortal postponed to 1H 2022 to significantly improve the game

Diablo Immortal has been officially postponed by Blizzard. The first mobile adaptation of the Diablo franchise is now targeting a global launch in the first half of 2022, with the developers eager to “significantly improve” the game in the meantime.

After the positive reception of the Alpha test, Blizzard focuses on what can be added and modified further. For example, there will be good, MMO-esque PvE raids; PvP Battlegrounds will be refined in all their aspects from matchmaking to class balancing, and controller support is indeed coming to Diablo Immortal. Last but not least, the character progression will be adjusted so that players with higher Paragon levels or players who take on higher difficulties will receive more powerful items.

PLAYER VS ENVIRONMENT (PVE)

We saw players yearning for more long-term PvE goals and activities that enriched the Diablo Immortal social experience. So we add new PvE centric raids in the Helliquarian system. Helliquary Bosses are now designed as an 8 player raid challenge to overcome.

In addition, we heard that players wanted more meaningful interaction with premiums, so we’ll make adjustments that make the Bounties system more attractive and fruitful for players who are actively taking on these challenges. For example, if you accept 4 bounties, they are all for the same zone.

Many players shared their concern that they found no reward in pushing the higher Challenge Rifts, so Challenge Rifts will now reward new upgrade materials that cannot be obtained any other way. Now those with the equipment, skill and zeal to face these obstacles head-on will be most rewarded.

PLAYER VS PLAYER (PVP)

The Closed Alpha introduced the Battleground, a place where heroes could test their mettle. The Battleground system promises a lot, but we believe more can be done to make this experience more enjoyable. We evaluate matchmaking, earning rankings, class balance, time to kill and other determinants to improve the battlefield in Diablo Immortal.

Additionally, the Cycle of Strife was first introduced in the Closed Alpha. In this endgame-based PvP, players swearing allegiance to the Shadows collide with the Immortals of Sanctuary. From forming a Dark House to staging a PvPvE attack, the Cycle of Strife is teeming with rivalry and faction pride. Good continue optimizing this feature so more players feel worthy for the quest for the Eternal Crown.

CONTROLLER SUPPORT

Your enthusiasm for wanting to play Diablo Immortal with a controller is coming; but we’re still working on the challenges of seamlessly adapting the touchscreen controls to a controller. Making our game more accessible is paramount, and we’ll be sharing more progress in this area as we approach beta.

Five months ago, we interviewed some of the key developers who worked on Diablo Immortal. It’s a long question and answer, but there are a lot of interesting details in case you missed it when it was first published.
