The Ascent Devs are working on making the Game Pass and Steam versions identical

Recent articles

We were surprised (in a negative way) to learn that The Ascent launched on Game Pass PC with broken ray tracing and missing NVIDIA DLSS support compared to the Steam version of the game. Fortunately, a patch was released last Friday that at least fixed the broken ray tracing.

Speaking with VG247, Neon Giant’s Game Director, Arcade Berg, explained why that happened. He also stressed that it is “absolutely” the intent of the developers to make the two versions of The Ascent identical.

So they are different versions of the game and there are different processes to basically distribute them. But we are constantly updating, you should have seen an update go live yesterday I believe. So we work on that every day to make sure everything is in order.

Berg was also asked if The Ascent could ever get a crossplay update between PC Steam and Xbox/PC Game Pass. Apparently that’s something the developers would like, but it’s far from guaranteed to happen.

Want to? Yes of course! But that’s quite an undertaking. It’s not something I can promise. I mean, yes, we want that. But I can’t say in good faith that it will happen. Because we don’t know.

Let’s hope they can at least add NVIDIA DLSS support to the Game Pass PC version of The Ascent. Without it, ray tracing becomes too much of a feat.
