Game developer 11 Bit Studios recently announced the video game Frostpunk 2, confirming rumors of a sequel to the original game.

The original city building and survival simulator video game has been confirmed to have a sequel after the game developers teased a few days ago that they would be announcing something on social media. An announcement trailer was released today showing what the world has become after the end of the original game, which was kind of crazy.

Here is a description of the recent announcement trailer:

Frostpunk 2 is the sequel to the critically acclaimed, BAFTA-nominated survival game that combines city-building, strategy and management gameplay, creating a brand new genre. The sequel takes place 30 years after the apocalyptic blizzard and the earth is still overwhelmed by the endless frost and harsh, icy climate.

You play as the leader of a resource-hungry metropolis where the expansion and quest for new power sources is an inevitable reality. After the coal age, Frostland’s conquest for the oil extraction industry is expected to be the new salvation of what’s left of humanity. However, change does not come by itself and not everyone in this new stratified society will welcome this new direction.

Demands and expectations from different factions will create tensions and conflict, but will cold-blooded rule and a Machiavellian approach to politics be necessary? As the eternal cold grips the city and threats from outside arise, you must ensure that your people are united, driven and ready for difficult, inevitable sacrifices!

Media outlet PC Gamer has contacted with Frostpunk 2 Co-Director Jakub Stokalski to talk about what the sequel is about. He mainly spoke about the overview and what comes after the campaign.

“The question becomes real, what now?” said Stokalski. “I’d say Frostpunk 2 is about what happens when you actually survive the unsurvivable. And not just you, but society as a whole.”

Frostpunk 2 is in the early stages of development and will be released on PC via Steam, GOG, and Epic Games Store.
