The open beta of Diablo 2 launches this week on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.

Blizzard is gearing up for another action-packed weekend, this time open to anyone who wants to get involved.

This week’s Diablo 2 beta kicks off on August 20, with the launch time set at 6pm BST across all platforms.

Best of all, no invite codes are needed now that the early access period is over.

For those eager to join in once the servers go live again, you can pre-load the Diablo 2 Resurrected demo today.

It should also be noted that PlayStation Plus is not required for Diablo 2 beta testing, but is required for online play at launch, same with Xbox Live Gold.

The upcoming test weekend will feature two additional classes for players to experience after the earlier Alpha, the ruthless shape-shifting Druid and the righteous hammer-throwing Paladin.

They will be part of the existing lineup with the Sorceress, the Barbarian and the Amazon.

This series of characters launches on Friday, August 20, and will remain available until August 23.

And with so much content unlocked before the final September release date, Diablo 2 fans will also be thrilled to hear that crossplay will be enabled as well.

A message from Blizzard confirmed this week: “Test weekends will have multiplayer enabled, in addition to cross-progression on Windows PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

“Up to eight players can play together in one game. In addition to complementary abilities that help each other in battle, experience, monster hit points, and the number of items falling increase as more players join the session.

“In addition, players can choose to duel each other or even claim a rival’s ear in PvP battles.

Finally, like the Technical Alpha, both Act I: The Sightless Eye and Act II: The Secret of the Vizjerei will be fully playable. The completely remade Act I & II films will also be featured in the Diablo II: Resurrected Early Access and Open Beta tests.”

Unfortunately, the only platform that won’t be able to access the Diablo 2 Resurrected open beta is the Nintendo Switch, which is missing due to technical issues.

“We are working closely with our platform partners to ensure a successful launch of Diablo II: Resurrected across all platforms. While the open beta will not be available for the Nintendo Switch system, the Heritage of Arreat transmog for Diablo III is intended to be available as a pre-order incentive for players on Nintendo Switch when Diablo II: Resurrected arrives on September 23 on all platforms will be launched.”

Blizzard hasn’t shared any last-minute news about schedule changes, and it looks like there won’t be a last-minute Nintendo Switch announcement.

But it’s worth keeping an eye on the official Diablo social media pages in case a final reveal is made before the beta goes live.
