In 2005, Daniel Craig was announced as the next James Bond. The new 007, best known for gangster film Layer Cake and BBC TV series Our Friends in the North, was not exactly a household name. While the 37-year-old’s casting was criticized for his hair color and height.
Craig would become the first blonde Bond, with the five previous incarnations having dark brown hair.
And at 5 feet 10 inches tall, it was a lot smaller than its predecessors, all of which were about six feet tall.
Of course, with Casino Royale, the new 007 proved its critics wrong, quickly becoming a favorite in the role for many.
But during filming, Craig admitted to director Martin Campbell that he did indeed listen to the criticism.

Campbell shared this in a new interview with James Bond Radio, while admitting that he personally blocked the “bulls *** and noise”.
The 77-year-old, who also directed GoldenEye, recalled how some people didn’t like that Pierce supposedly couldn’t drive with a stick.
But then on Casino Royale, the Kiwi filmmaker asked Craig, “Are you listening to all this nonsense?”
To which the new 007 replied, “Absolutely me.” So Campbell asked, “Why are you doing that?”

Craig said, “The whole crew… they’ve heard it, so I want to make sure I know what the crew knows.”
Campbell, who promoted his new film The Protégé, added: “But as a professional that he is, he just threw himself through all that mess.
“It didn’t bother him at all. It probably motivated him to completely disprove his critics, which he did.”
After two Bond reboots that often top the polls of the best 007 movies, could Campbell return for a third after No Time To Die?

During a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything, the director said, “Yeah, I would… [consider directing Bond 26.]
“I love the franchise, and it would be with a new Bond, which is always interesting, especially since my two Bond movies had different Bonds.”
As for the next 007 star, producer Barbara Broccoli has confirmed that Bond will always be male, but they are open to an actor of any ethnicity.
Meanwhile, No Time To Die will hit UK cinemas on September 30, 2021.
