PS4 and Xbox One gamers have been told that tap shooting will be removed from the game as part of the next Apex Legends update.

The big news is that Tap Strafing is a method used by PC players that gives a movement boost.

It’s great to use when counter-attacking another player who can’t use the same technique.

If you can spin in the air you can win many more encounters and it is not considered an exploit.

But while it’s technically possible to run it on most input devices, the easiest way is to use a keyboard and mouse.

It’s unclear why Respawn decided to make it impossible to tap strafe, but gamers have been warned that the change will be part of the next Apex update.

Respawn confirms: “After much deliberation, we’ve decided to remove tap firing from Apex Legends in Patch 10.1.

“Our reasoning: it’s inaccessible, illegible/counterplay and aggravated by movement skills.

“The following patch notes will have a more detailed note on this.”

The mouse’s scroll wheel makes everything easier, and since you can’t with controllers, it looks like PC gamers are going to lose their crossplay advantage.

Many users have never heard of the technique and have debated what the ban could do to the game, with one fan posting online:

“After much consideration and debate, I have just learned that tapping is a thing.

“After I just looked it up, it’s when you spam (or re-bind it to the scroll wheel) when you make a turn and maintain your momentum. So you can run and immediately 180 degrees while maintaining your speed.”

Another adds: “The point is, though, you probably care and just don’t know. High-level players abuse this stuff that regular people don’t even know exists. You benefit from this change.

“I had the exact same thought. I don’t really have much to say about this as I’m on the controller, but it must feel bad not to have that sudden change of direction anymore. This is also an indirect improvement for Horizons passive.”

We don’t know what else will be added in the next Apex Legends update, but chances are we’ll learn more soon.

Respawn has promised to bring more news via the official patch notes, and there’s still plenty of time to roll out the new patch this week.
