The release date of NBA 2K22 marks the launch of the next installment in the famed Basketball franchise that sells millions of copies every year.

A rival when it comes to GTA Online for concurrent releases, the arrival of the next NBA 2K game is a big event for gamers and shareholders alike.

And the good news is, we know when everyone can start playing NBA 2K22 on PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox and PC platforms.

Developers at 2K have confirmed that there will be a range of new and returning features, including a new shot meter.

The new gauge in 2K22 dynamically expands when players shoot high-quality shots with good shooters, but shrinks when fighting fiercely, shooting with a low-rated shooter, or getting tired.

The development team says NBA 2K22 will place more emphasis on Shot IQ, meaning the teams that work for open looks and make smart shots will have much more success than the teams that force bad shots.

2K hopes some of the changes already announced will help build a game with faster gameplay, tighter and more responsive moves, and a more skill-based attack.

But the big question is when will gamers be able to start playing this week and whether they can enjoy an early NBA 2K22 release date?

CAN YOU PLAY NBA 2K22 EARLY?

Unfortunately for gamers waiting to play, the NBA 2K22 early release date and early access period is not set for 2021.

This means that whatever version of the game you’re playing, you’ll get access on Friday, September 10, 2021.

Previous games had an early access period and prelude demos, but nothing like that is planned for this NBA 2K22.

So the main reason to pre-order the different versions of the game is linked to what those different versions contain for bonuses.

Currently, the NBA 2K21 release date and launch time is set for September 10 at midnight.

This is the expected release schedule for PlayStation and Xbox platforms, but Nintendo and Steam gamers may have to wait until 6pm BST to get access.

More news can be shared later this week before the NBA 2K22 launch begins.

And for those who want to hear more about the upcoming launch and what’s changed, here’s an official list of confirmed innovations for NBA 2K22:

Defensive and Defensive AI: Completely rebuilt shot match and blocking systems, a major update to the basic defensive rotations and much more;

Dribbling: Players will experience a unique feel and rhythm when increasing size, significantly faster overall tempo and much tighter control when navigating the court, and a host of other new combos, cancellations and movement chains;

After Play: Upgrades highlight a host of new content, including new moves and a new arsenal of back-to-basket moves;

Finishing: In addition to a focus on creating a wider skill gap for edge finishing, players can also fully customize their dunk repertoire with an all-new Dunk Style Creator;

Builds, Badges & Takeover: Adjustments to create more balanced builds, and an increase in the total number of badges to 80, offer players many ways to influence the game. Additionally, NBA 2K22 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles introduces Takeover Perks*, which you can unlock to enhance your existing Takeover skills.
