The aptly named Operation Crystal Guard update arrives this week, with the new Rainbow Six Siege season promising a brand new character to deploy and various map edits to explore.

Osa will be the main draw for many fans and is expected to become very popular when she jumps off the test servers in September. Crystal Guard also brings exciting new technology to the game, with Osa offering new shield mechanics.

The new attacker will boast an average level of health and speed, balanced with the transparent and bulletproof Talon-8 shield that can be worn by Osa or placed on floors or window frames, giving her a protective line of sight.

Osa offers standard equipment, with the smoke grenades being invaluable for those who want to break through in style.

Osa also brings new additions to the Rainbow Six Siege story, with her official biography adding this description: “Following her passion for creation and technology, she studied electromechanics at a vocational school, then military engineering at the University of Zagreb, where she excelled in robotics engineering. She found herself isolated because of her unorthodox approach and the attitudes of others towards her transition, so she concentrated on her work.

“Her unique perspective and raw creative ability set her apart from her peers and caught the attention of Kali, who was looking for recruits around the country. An offer followed and Janković joined Nighthaven.

“The company’s success is largely due to Osa’s inventions and her fieldwork. Her efficiency and the versatility of her arsenal have given them an edge in any registered operation, and proving herself to be a dedicated and reliable asset has earned her the privileged position of Nighthaven’s head of R&D.”

Ubisoft has also confirmed that there will be several minor reworks of the map this week, with Bank, Coastline, and Clubhouse being rebuilt from the ground up.

The new version of the older maps will focus on environmental destruction, the spread of sound and lighting. Bank, one of Rainbow Six Siege’s oldest maps, has remained largely untouched over the years. With this season’s changes, all three cards are now in line with current technical standards and Bank has received a full art rework, according to Ubi.

WHEN DOES THE NEW RAINBOW SIX SIEGE SEASON START?

Ubisoft has confirmed that the new season of Rainbow Six Siege has a release date for Tuesday, September 7.

The R6 development team is expected to release the new update at hourly intervals on PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but has yet to provide a full schedule.

For now, we have not yet been given a release date for when Rainbow Six Siege – Crystal Guard will be available to play.

Ubisoft will reveal more in the coming hours before the next patch launches, with downtime and maintenance expected to be announced.

Previous R6 patches went live in the UK in the early afternoon, updating the schedule used for Crimson Heist, including PC, at 2pm BST, Xbox at 3pm and PlayStation at 4pm BST.

With this in mind, the Rainbow Six Siege Crystal Guard release time is expected to start around 1pm BST and last all afternoon.

The Express Online will add the exact times at the top of this article once the new season information is confirmed.

Crossplay is another exciting update planned for Rainbow Six Siege, although it won’t be rolling out this week.

On June 30, Rainbow Six Siege launched on Stadia, and from this date, players on PC, Stadia, and Amazon Luna could queue together for matches and have unified account progress across those platforms.

It won’t be until early 2022 that players on Xbox and PlayStation platforms will be able to team up and compete against each other as crossplay comes to consoles and cross-progress launches across all platforms.
