You like to have games you like on your shelf. At least some of you agree. GRIS liked many. The physical release was unfortunately exclusive and limited. Now Devolver Digital’s indie is getting a commercial version again. And this time it appears in the broad trade.
Update September 7: The Collector’s Edition is also on the market. In addition to the game, it includes a soundtrack and a 100-page artbook at a pleasant additional cost.
GRIS was released first for Nintendo Switch and PCs, later also for PlayStation 4. The new commercial version is reserved for Nintendo Switch fans. There was once a limited physical release for PS4 as well.
Gris is a hopeful young girl who is lost in her own world and grapples with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through grief is reflected in her clothing, which gives her new abilities and helps her better navigate her faded reality. As the story gradually unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and then see her world in a different way – finding new ways to explore with her expanded skills.
What is special about GRIS is that developers and artists outside the video game industry were involved. According to the publisher, many of them “have their roots in illustration, painting and graphic design”. Examples are Conrad Roset and the music of Berlinist.
