GTA 6 release date won’t come until Rockstar is done with GTA 5
GTA 6 may not be out for years, and to fill that space, Rockstar Games has one Grand Theft Auto project that isn’t exactly exciting fans.
The enhanced next-gen version of GTA 5 was unveiled this week at the PlayStation Showcase, and the official trailer didn’t surprise the masses.
While there will be many fans looking forward to buying a special version of GTA 5 for PS5 and Xbox Series X, there are many who have already enjoyed several versions by now.
And those who have already played GTA 5 and GTA Online on Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 and Xbox One may not need to spend much more money on it.
But it looks like until parent company Take-Two Interactive is done with GTA 5, there won’t be a new next-gen version to play.
And fans may not have been happy to learn that the new version for PS5 and Xbox Series X won’t be available to play in 2021.
Rockstar Games has now confirmed that they have delayed the release until March 2022, telling gamers:
“Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online are now coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S March 2022, with a range of technical and graphical improvements across the experience, including performance improvements for select vehicles in GTA Online, and so much more.
“While we’re extremely excited to bring GTAV to the latest generation of consoles, the game needs a few extra months to polish and refine.
“We look forward to sharing more details about these expanded and enhanced releases soon, including the new standalone version of GTA Online also coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in March.
“The new standalone version of GTA Online will be available to claim for FREE on PlayStation 5 for the first three months after its March 2022 launch (GTAV is not required to play).”
And a recent fiscal report also revealed another key reason why Rockstar would love to take the time to develop GTA 6.
Almost every quarter, GTA Online brings in nearly a quarter of a billion dollars, despite the fact that GTA 5 and GTA Online are almost eight years old.
A report from NetBet.co.uk also analyzed the most profitable video games growing year over year.
And GTA V was in fourth place, ahead of games like The Sims 4, Pokemon Go, League of Legends, and Candy Crush Saga.
According to the report, GTA V had annual sales of $911 million in 2020, up 53.11 percent year over year.
The only hope gamers have right now of playing something new in the Grand theft Auto franchise is tied to reports that Rockstar Games will be launching remastered versions of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas.
