The comparison with well-known brands is of course a double-edged sword for indie developments. It attracts attention, but it also raises expectations. The horror adventure dap by Australian indie duo Melting Parrot is presented to us as a “bizarre mix of Pikmin meets Mononoke”.
As of today, September 29, there is a specific release date, so it won’t be long before you can convince yourself of Dap. The game will then be released for PC Steam. It recently won two awards at BitSummit in Japan.
In Dap, players must lead a group of small creatures known as “Daps” through a hostile and depraved world. The more Daps they collect, the stronger the pack becomes, allowing them to battle alien abominations, unlock new areas, and work together to solve puzzles.
But the grisly infection that has hit the forest can also afflict the Daps, turning them into mangled, monstrous versions of themselves. Players must move carefully or they risk the pack turning against itself.
Dap playfully combines fast-paced twin-stick combat with light survival and crafting mechanics. Ultimately, there must be an “engrossing horror experience” in an “atmospheric pixel world”.
