Fortnite Update 18.10 launches today and is expected to be one of the most significant patches yet for Season 8.

Epic Games warned of server shutdowns that today’s patch will be bigger on some platforms as part of the usual announcement.

Offering just a snippet of information about what will be included, the Fortnite support team has confirmed that this week’s update will be big for those playing on Xbox and Nintendo platforms.

They’ve also told gamers that the next patch will “bring the heat,” which could mean a new item or map change is planned.

The new Chug Splash recovery item is expected to debut early in Season 8 and will allow gamers to heal 20 health while giving a speed boost.

This is expected to have some sort of snappy tagline, which probably means it’ll arrive today as part of the new patch.

Epic Games has also confirmed that major background tweaks are also being made to keep the XP system running smoothly.

An earlier message from the game’s support team reads: “We’ve noticed that the XP we’ve gained in Battle Royale this season is not where we’d like it to be, and we’re making several improvements.

“We will update everyone on 9/28 of the changes we are making. Thank you for playing Season 8.”

WHEN DOES FORTNITE DOWNTIME BEGIN FOR UPDATE 17.21?

Fortnite server downtime scheduled for today will begin on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at 9:00 AM BST.

For gamers in the United States, this means maintenance will begin the same day at 4:00 AM EDT.

No one should wait for the servers to come back as all platforms will be online at the same time.

Gamers are also warned that servers will shut down 30 minutes before the stated maintenance window.

And while Epic Games hasn’t given an exact time when servers will be back online, they’ve confirmed how long it could take.

The Epic Games site has put a four-hour limit on today’s maintenance, meaning Fortnite servers can be offline until 1:00 PM BST.

However, this is the maximum duration and the downtime is expected to last for a much shorter period.

A message from Epic Games adds: “The Fortnite v18.10 update will be released on September 28. In preparation for the update, downtime will start at approximately 04:00 AM ET (08:00 UTC). Matchmaking will be disabled at approx. 03:30 ET (07:30 UTC).

“Please note that the patch size will be larger than usual on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.”

More news, including official patch notes, is expected to be shared during today’s Fortnite maintenance.
