The latest reports have conveyed unpleasant news to millions of users of the WhatsApp application, as it revealed that it will soon stop supporting many smartphones, which means that the application will completely stop working on these devices.

The popular messaging app is expected to begin removing support for old iPhone and Android phones forever, starting in November, when affected users will need to update their software or purchase a new phone. If the device is too old to be updated, the user will need to get a new phone anyway.

More than 40 different smartphone models are expected to be affected. And set the update deadline to November 1st, after which WhatsApp will stop working permanently. Android users will need to run Android 4.1 or later. This means that a number of popular phones will lose access to WhatsApp, including Samsung Galaxy S3 and Huawei Ascend Mate. While iPhone users must have iOS 10 or later, iPhone 4 or earlier users will lose access to the app.

And if you have never updated your iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone SE, you will lose access until you update the device, because it was released with iOS 9.

All three devices can be updated to iOS 15, the latest version of Apple’s operating system, and still have access to WhatsApp. Tech companies regularly stop supporting older devices, as Google did just that with older Android phones and disabled Gmail, YouTube, and Google Maps. Sometimes this is due to the ineffectiveness of keeping apps running on very old versions of iOS or Android. This is especially true if only a small percentage of users are running these older versions of the software. Using outdated software can also pose serious security risks, so you need to upgrade if you can’t get a new phone.
