Just in time for the weekend it’s finally official: the old one GTA Classics are coming to all current consoles with a consistently clunky name construction as a title, even this year. The press release doesn’t give too much tangible information about this, though, but the last paragraph is noteworthy:

In October there will be a special birthday for Rockstar Games: it’s 20 years ago Grand Theft Auto III originally appeared the game that gave you the previously unknown freedom to immerse yourself in the vibrant, threedimensional city of Liberty City and make it unsafe.

Besides the fact that Grand Theft Auto III paved the way for the open world genre, it also laid the groundwork for Grand Theft Auto as a cultural phenomenon, along with the series’ two subsequent and equally legendary installments, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. With all our hearts we wish all fans of Grand Theft Auto thank you for supporting the Games over the past two decades. Your love and appreciation for these games helped with that Grand Theft Auto Continue the row with each part.

To celebrate the upcoming anniversary, we are pleased to announce that all three games will be available as Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and via the Rockstar Games Launcher for PC. Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition offers overarching improvements, including revised graphics and gameplay improvements for all three games, but retains the classic look and feel of the originals. We look forward to sharing more about these groundbreaking games with you in the coming weeks stay tuned!

In preparation for release, we’ll start pulling the existing versions of the classic titles out of digital retail next week. So if you think, for whatever reason, that you need to let the old versions collect dust on your hard drives or SD cards, then you need to act fast. Either way, this information may be more relevant to mobile gamers.
