Non-PS4 owners, take note, you’ll soon be able to play God of War without needing a PlayStation console or subscription.
Currently, God of War can only be played with a PS4, PS5 or with a PlayStation Now.
But that will all change later this year, following the news that Sony will be launching the popular exclusive version on PC.
The tech giant has already done this with several major games, including Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone.
But God of War seems to be one of the biggest PC ports Sony has put together and is a sign of things to come.
There will be unlocked frame rates and 4K resolution options at launch, with God of War on January 14, 2022 on Steam.
This is long before God of War Ragnarok is released as a new exclusive title on PS5.
A message from Sony explains: “Our primary goal when we brought God of War to PC was to highlight the exceptional content the team has created and to leverage the powerful hardware the platform provides to create a unique create a breathtaking and powerful version of the game.
“You’ll be able to enjoy the full potential of our cinematic, no-cut camera as it follows Kratos and Atreus through the spheres with the option of true 4k resolution, on supported devices and unlocked frame rates.
“Our PC version includes a wide variety of graphics presets and options, allowing you to fine-tune your visual experience based on your settings. From higher resolution shadows and enhanced screen space reflections to improvements to the ambient occlusion pipeline with GTAO and SSDO – God of War on PC can create a striking visual quality unique to the platform.
God of War is coming to PC, Sony has announced
One thing to note is that while God of War gets all the usual bells and whistles, Sony is also partnering with Nvidia.
DLSS is a handy feature that allows to improve performance and frame rate, and God of War will have it in January 2022.
“We are also pleased to announce that we will have full integration with NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) available on RTX. You don’t have to sacrifice high graphics settings and output resolutions for high performance in God of War.
“In addition to DLSS, we will also have NVIDIA Reflex low-latency technology available. Reflex delivers a more responsive experience allowing you to react faster and hit harder combos.
There will be many gamers who have been waiting a long time to play God of War on their chosen platform, excited by today’s big announcement.
