After the Famitsu as the first magazine Shin Megami Tensei V should miss a rating, the embargo fell on the western media today. Those who don’t trust Famitsu (9, 9, 9, 9) so much can allay their worries. The JRPG is also celebrated in the West.
Of the OpenCritical Score Shin Megami Tensei V currently has 86 points. So it looks just as good as Tales of Arise. the computer games Shin Megami Tensei V calls it a “hardcore JRPG with a lot of style”. Let’s take a look at the English-language media.
According to IGN SMT V feels like the “sharper, less sociable younger brother of Persona 5,” although the Persona series, as it is known, started as a spin-off from SMT. SMT V lacks heart compared to Persona 5, IGN says, but the game scores in most other areas.
By the “missing heart” you mean the story most criticized at IGN. They are even called disappointing. Only after about 20 hours does the author find the necessary motivation here. But hey – with a runtime of 80 hours, it’s probably still fairly early.
The fact that you do want to play is thanks to “extensive group customization, excellent combat and challenging enemies” that never get boring. In addition, the varied exploration sections are praised.
Bee game spot you can’t do without REM allusion in the headline – thanks for the catchy tune. There, too, they praise the combat system, the challenges and the satisfaction it brings. Point of criticism here too: A sometimes long-winded story without major twists and turns.
GameInformer states that SMT V is exactly what one expects from the series. That sounds good to, well, fans of the show. Shin Megami remains herself and does not try to transform into what it is not. In her preliminary conclusion, however, the author hopes for a few more twists and turns. We know from the other reviews that you will be disappointed here.
GameReactor also awards 9 out of 10 points, here are a few excerpts from the performance. Of course, the progress compared to the 3DS is great. But the hardware is also limited and you notice that. In general, however, most media agree that Shin Megami Tensei V is a very successful JRPG. Many people were just hoping for more of the story.
