Mojang seems to have everything in place for a big Minecraft 1.18 release date – with the game now available on Xbox Game Pass and cross-play support with every current Minecraft version, including consoles and mobile.

And while we know Caves and Cliffs Part 2 is coming this year, we still don’t know when the big Minecraft update will come out.

And based on past launches, we might not get much time to prepare for the launch when it arrives on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile.

When the Minecraft 1.17 release date was announced, Mojang delivered just a week before everything went live on June 8.

And the same thing could happen with Caves and Cliffs Part 2, meaning we might only get a very short time to prepare for launch.

That also means we can’t predict exactly when it might happen, as Mojang has kept the final launch date very vague.

The latest news from the updated Minecraft FAQ reads: “The Caves & Cliffs Update will come in two parts; the first (1.17) was released on June 8, 2021 and the second (1.18) will be released later this year.

“The decision to release Caves & Cliffs in two parts is the result of our most ambitious update to date, as our team also continues to tackle the challenges of remote working.

“Giving our development team some extra time allows them to deliver a range of exciting features without compromising on quality, reliability or functionality for players. You can watch the full announcement video here.

“The first part of the Caves & Cliffs Update will focus on some cute and fun mobs, cool items and new blocks. For the full list of new features for Part I, see the latest changelog for Java and Bedrock.”

And it hasn’t been that long since the latest Minecraft snapshot was launched by the Mojang team.

Snapshot 21W43A is now available for download and includes the new world blending features revealed during October’s Minecraft Live event.

This means that world generation around the edges of an old world is now being adjusted for a smoother transition, also filling in the space under existing chunks, but only with deep slate.

Mojang says they’ll be adding full cave generation here later, meaning another snapshot could be released before the Caves and Cliffs Part 2 update is ready to launch.
