UPDATE: Sea of Thieves has been taken offline for server maintenance on Xbox consoles and PC.

The news was announced by Rare on Twitter, although patch notes are still MIA. Express Online will update this story as patch notes are available.

And just like that, the Sea of Thieves servers are down for essential maintenance.

“The shipbuilders are taking some time to tinker, but we’ll let you know as soon as it’s safe to set sail. Please note that there will be an update to download before you do. Cheers!”

ORIGINAL: Sea of Thieves developer Rare has released a brand new update to the pirate adventure game.

The new Sea of Thieves update will be available to download on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One starting at 10am GMT in the UK.

Unfortunately, the new update comes with a period of server downtime, which also starts at 10am.

Rare usually takes the game offline for about three hours, so you can expect everything to go back to normal by 1:00 PM GMT.

The news was announced by Rare on Twitter: “Warning Pirates! We will be performing some essential maintenance on the Sea of Thieves servers tomorrow, November 11th, from approximately 10am GMT.

“Once we’re back online and before you leave again, you’ll need to download a small update – plan your travels accordingly.”

Rare followed up on the original tweet with an update on Sea of Thieves’ server status.

“Here’s your one-hour warning – the Sea of Thieves servers will be taken down for maintenance at approximately 10:00 GMT. Check your map, mark the nearest Outpost and redeem those chests!”

Express Online will keep this story updated with the latest patch notes once the update goes live.

The update launches just days after Rare announced a major milestone for Sea of Thieves.

According to the latest reports, Sea of Thieves has amassed 25 million players since its launch in 2018.

“If we were a nation, we’d be about the 56th most populous in the world,” Rare confirms.

“Not only did we roll out some special in-game goodies, including the chance for a lucky buccaneer to win 25 million in-game gold, there was a special celebratory message from Creative Director Mike Chapman. On to the next milestone!”

In case you are new to the world of Xbox, Sea of Thieves is a massive multiplayer pirate adventure.

Sea of Thieves offers the essential pirate experience, from sailing and fighting to exploring and looting – everything you need to live the pirate life and become a legend in its own right.

“Without fixed roles, you have complete freedom to approach the world and other players however you want.

“Whether you’re traveling as a group or sailing alone, you’ll no doubt encounter other crews in this shared world adventure – but will they be friends or foes, and how will you react?”

The game is available for free as part of Xbox Games Pass, so it’s worth checking to see if you’re a member.
