Can’t buy Xbox Series X? There’s good Xbox One news
Microsoft today announced that Xbox Game Pass games can now be played via the cloud on your Xbox Series X, S, or Xbox One console. Previously, the cloud-compatible games that came with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate were only playable via devices such as your smartphone, laptop, PC or tablet. This new feature means you can play games without having to install them on your hard drive, freeing up crucial space.
And select next-gen games that are currently only playable on Xbox Series X and S and are now also available to play via the cloud on Xbox One. Series X and S games now available to play via the cloud on your Xbox One include The Medium, The Riftbreaker, and Recompile by Bloober Team. And this library will be expanded with more next-gen games to be added, including the critically acclaimed Microsoft Flight Simulator.
The big new Game Pass feature has been announced in a message on the Xbox Wire. In it, Catherine Gluckstein, vice president and head of product for Xbox Cloud Gaming said, “Wow, what a week we spent celebrating Xbox’s 20th anniversary together. And we have more news to share as we take one more step in Moving towards our mission to bring gaming to more people when and where they want to play: today you can play Game Pass games from the cloud on your Xbox console.
“We are excited that Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription. We are launching soon in 25 regions and Brazil is coming. instance rolled out with our November release to a subset of Xbox gamers and will scale to all gamers in supported markets in the coming weeks.”
The surprising news comes the week that Xbox celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Monday, November 15, marked two decades since the original Xbox first launched in North America, featuring the giant Duke controller and arguably one of the best console launch games ever – Bungie’s iconic Halo: Combat Evolved.
And to celebrate this milestone, Microsoft has given Xbox fans plenty of reasons to cheer this week.
The biggest announcement was the surprise reveal that the free multiplayer portion of Halo Infinite is now available.
This free download fell on Monday and was released almost a month before the official release date for Halo Infinite in December.
Elsewhere, Microsoft also added 70 new backwards-compatible games to its OG Xbox and Xbox 360 library this week.
Original Xbox games that have been added include the launch game Dead or Alive 3, FromSoftware’s Otogi and Otogi 2, SEGA shooter Gunvalkyrie and the brilliant Munch’s Oddysee.
While the new back compat 360 games Ridge Racer 6 (Riiiiddggggge Racer!), the FEAR games, Max Payne 3, and Binary Domain.
