A shock wave recently hit Japan’s Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. That has nothing to do with the release of Lost Judgment – it was a success – but with the departure of Toshihiro Nagoshi and Daisuke Sato.

The new studio boss is longtime Yakuza producer Masayoshi Yokoyama, who was already part of the studio’s most influential trio with Nagoshi and Sato.

A new IP and the continuation of Yakuza

You are now breaking new ground, as Yokoyama reveals in an interview with Famitsu. In addition to Yakuza and Judgment, they are also currently working on a new IP. The restructuring is an opportunity for change. Without a shock like the departures of Nagoshi and Sato, change is difficult in an organization with more than 300 employees, Yokoyama said.

A sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon is also in development, which was recently confirmed. Yokoyama recently confirmed that Ichiban Kasuga will continue to star and the sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon will take place several years later.

In another interview, the creators recently revealed that it’s also conceivable that the Yakuza series may leave Japan behind and its characters will explore new countries and regions in the future.

In addition, Judgment should continue, but there is nothing concrete about this. According to reports, there are legal problems. Yokoyama has not made this clear, however.
