The next major Minecraft update will arrive in November 2021, and there will be a few items missing from the original lineup.

Mojang today confirmed that the release date of Minecraft 1.18 was slated to be November 30, 2021.

A late November date or an early December date was expected after a flurry of pre-release builds that went live earlier this month.

And now that we know exactly when the new Minecraft update will be available for download, gamers can also find out what might be missing.

While most fans will be happy to hear that Caves and Cliffs Part 2 is going live very soon, they might be a little disappointed to learn that a few minor details will be missing.

The good news is, there’s nothing major stopping the next expansion from fulfilling its primary goal.

This includes the long-promised makeover of mountains and underground areas, with updated terrain generation, higher peaks and more elaborate cave systems as part of the package.

What will be missing from Caves and Cliffs Part 2 includes archeology, bundles and goat horns, which have been shifted to a much later date.

Mojang had this to say about Minecraft 1.18’s new release date and item delays, telling fans today:

“You may have noticed that a few items were missing from the list of new things, namely archeology, bundles and goat horns.

“Not just because I couldn’t think of anything funny to write about them, but I absolutely could. Archaeology? I can dig it! See? Gold. No, these functions have been put on hold.

“They have not been cancelled; we just had to put them on the back burner for now. While they won’t be in the Wild Update, they will be coming to Minecraft in the future if we can add them in the best way possible.

“Until then, you have a lot of mountains to climb and caves to dive into. That’s going to take some time, especially if you’re navigating like me: minimum planning, maximum confidence.

“The Caves & Cliffs Update: Part II will be available on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, Windows 10 and Windows 11 – and Java edition on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

“You have until November 30th to decide whether you want to go high and become a master mountaineer, or go low and become a smart spelunker.

“You might want to check out the sweet in between which is neither cave nor cliff. I think it’s called… the ground? The middle? Grass? Who knows, maybe it doesn’t start with a C, so I wasn’t paying attention.”
