Xur is returning to Destiny 2 this week following a deluge of big news for the free-to-play title.

Bungie has confirmed that Xbox Game Pass will lose its entire Destiny content in December, and is also planning to bring back some unique weapons to celebrate the studio’s anniversary.

This includes the Gjallarhorn, and since the event kicks off in early December, there’s a good chance we won’t see the legendary rocket launcher pop up in Xur’s shop this week.

However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be plenty of other exotic weapons and legendary armor pieces to check out when the elusive merchant returns.

Xur will be back in play between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM GMT, but Bungie is not releasing its final location. Instead, Guardians must explore all of his normal abodes, including the EDZ, The Tower, and Nessus.

This will happen relatively quickly and we should have a full report of what new exotics are available to buy within minutes of his return.

And while Xur won’t be directly affected by the upcoming birthday update, the weapons and wares he sells for Legendary Shards will be.

A new post from Bungie revealed how they plan to downplay their skills in favor of starring weapons, explaining to fans in a new TWAB:

“Earlier this year, we heard overwhelming feedback that the Crucible was largely dominated by skill use. Players felt that skills were fired too often, with too much potential and too little investment.

“At its core, Destiny is a game about space magic, so any adjustments to our capabilities must be made with care. We believe the changes we’ve made will keep intact the core of what makes Destiny skills fun, while eliminating some of the outrageous cases we’ve seen.

“I think it’s important to emphasize here that part of Destiny’s strength is that it’s a live game and that we’re able to iterate and improve the game over time. This means that with that in mind, we are building new base systems, such as the one you will read about today. We’re giving ourselves more balance knobs to tune in than we’ve ever had before, and we hope you’ll come to understand why that’s so important as you read on.

“We hope the 30th anniversary shakes up the sandbox in new ways and gets you excited for even more changes in The Witch Queen. The team will probably go down for a while as we still have Solar and Arc to use 3.0ify among other insanely cool initiatives. The team takes player feedback seriously and as Destiny players we have an intrinsic fire to keep improving things for everyone.”

Back to Xur, and his new weapons and items will be available as usual until the end of the year and beyond. The Legendary Shards used by Xur are remnants of powerful items used to upgrade equipment or trade it for other gear.

It should also be noted that Xur will drop items that are similar in power level to your character. And another part of Xur that’s new in the latest version of Destiny 2 is that he’s now dropping Cipher Quests for free.

The Quest will reward you with an exotic figure, and last week involved completing 21 Strikes or winning the same number of Crucible or Gambit matches.

Each week, Guardians can acquire one Exotic Engram using Legendary Shards that are decoded as Exotics not already in your collection.
