New World server merges dates and times (Image: AMAZON)

Amazon is downsizing this week, with new global server mergers slated for the end of the year.

The development team behind the successful MMO has confirmed that game servers will be shut down for maintenance because they want to merge worlds.

The good news is that a lot of this will be complete by the time everything happens on the EU, NA and Australia servers, but there’s a good chance that gameplay will be disrupted in the process.

For those tracking when the New World server merge will begin, Amazon has confirmed it will happen on Monday, December 20 and Tuesday, December 21.

For East US, the merges of new world servers will begin on December 20 at 10 a.m. EDT.

For US West, the New World Server Merges will begin on December 20 at 10 a.m. EDT.

For Central EU, the merges of the new world servers will start on December 21 at midnight.

Too many worlds merge to list them all, but the areas affected can be found at the link below.

And more news on why the mergers are happening can be found here via the latest statement from the New World team:

“When planning global mergers, our team typically looks for near-equal factional representation and a peak population of over 1000, among other indicators of post-merger global health.

“That’s not quite the case with some of the upcoming mergers because of an issue I’ll explain below. I want to make it clear that for these worlds this is the first step in a multi-merge process. The work plan is to reassess and address all struggling servers in early 2022.

“Unfortunately we can’t put every world together as we would like into the close team due to a concern about the persistence of the housing that would be eliminated if we continued with the all-on-one plan in some sets now.

“We have found that when multiple residential lots are stacked by merging or transfers, we reach an insecure level of persistent data that can cause instability and possible loss of persistence; which means that if the bug is activated, your house can disappear. Nobody wants that.

“We need to merge your worlds as soon as possible, and the merge we move forward with is the safest option right now.

“This persistence bug also affects character transfers. It is a complex situation, but we are working on it and will update you when we have made progress in this area.

“In the meantime, to help alleviate some of the faction imbalance and to address players who are still in a bad state with their faction reset timer, we plan to do a one-time reset of the faction change cooldown for everyone to perform.

“We hope the reset will allow sets with a smaller population post-merger to be able to use game modes such as war and PVP as we work on a better solution to get them to a more populous world. Our community managers will post timing details in the section Official news when we are ready to perform the reset.
