Dying Light 2: Stay Human cut in Germany only and available for download

Techland has no good news for German gamers: Dying Light 2: Stay Human keeps it in the tradition of the former and does not make it through the youth protection authorities in Germany. This time around, though, at least we’re getting something the game will be out February 4 for PlayStations, Xbox and Switch (as a cloud version), albeit in a trimmeddown version that will again be available as a download only.

It comes as a surprise that to find the last halfway known game reindexed for violent content, you have to go back to 2015 but at the time it was the first Extinguishing light.

The official press release contains specific information on why this is the case and what will not be included in this country:

Techland announces a special version of the open world action roleplaying game Dying Light 2: Stay Human which is only published in digital form for the German market. Despite numerous attempts and exhausting all legal means at the company’s disposal, the uncut version did not receive the required USK classification for publication in Germany.

The USK rated the version specially adapted for the German market with a USK 18 Age indicator. The Germanlanguage, uncut physical version of the game will be available at all major retailers in Austria and Switzerland.

What are the differences between the international and the German version?

In the German version, the decapitation and mutilation of human opponents is disabled and players cannot kill neutral NPCs. The story, game progress and base gameplay are not affected in any way. Techland will send additional versions of the game to the USK in hopes of passing the exam. Since Techland’s stated goal is to present the game to German players as the developers envisioned, they will keep the special German version as close to the international version as possible.

At the time of publication, players from Germany will only be able to play in coop mode within their region. However, Techland is working hard to ensure they can play alongside players from other regions shortly after release.
