Makers sound resigned, but hope for a sequel

In a interview Producer Tomohiko Hirano and series director Tatsuya Kando have discussed the future of The World Ends With You. “To be honest, we don’t have any plans for the next part at the moment,” Hirano says. Kando’s answer was a bit more resigned: “I feel like I’ve done what I can.”

While there are no plans and NEO: The World Ends With You didn’t live up to Square Enix’s sales expectations, Hirano has some specific thoughts on how the series will continue.

“There are still a lot of areas of Shibuya that we couldn’t replicate in either game. Part of me would like to make that happen somehow. Please continue to share your passion and love for the game – maybe our company will let us do a sequel,” he said.

Kando also made a similar statement: feedback from fans would help. “NEO has proven to be a game that was full of thoughts and emotions when I was 14. I feel like I gave everything. I will continue to review fan feedback to see how they experienced the game. And so find out what might be the best path to the future.”

NEO: The World Ends with You is available for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It also appeared on the Epic Games Store a few weeks ago. And it’s very good! Our test also confirms this for you. The retail versions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 can be found, for example, on Amazon*.
