The new PlayStation 5 game is also free to download for some
Sony previously surprised everyone by revealing that Deep Rock Galactic would be coming to PS4 and PS5 consoles in January 2022.
Deep Rock has proven to be a huge success on Xbox and PC platforms, offering a mix of co-op Roguelike gameplay with first-person shooter mechanics.
It’s not for everyone, but many have picked up and enjoyed the Dwarf-focused mining game from developers Coffee Stain Studios.
The team behind the hit shooter just added a new seasonal dynamic to the game, with new weapons and leveling abilities, as well as a brand new and dangerous mission.
The Performance Pass is one of the main draws of the new season, with Coffee Stain in November:
“Earning Achievement Points is how you progress through the 100 levels of Season 01. You earn these simply by completing missions, in addition to hefty bonuses paid out for completing seasonal challenges.
“Your current seasonal challenges can be tracked and managed in the season terminal. You can have up to three active challenges at a time and you will get a new challenge every day. Most of the challenges will be completed in addition to your normal work in the mines, but one of them requires surrendering the hard-to-get data rack, which can be obtained by completing the new mission, Industrial Sabotage.
“In addition, you can recover Data Cells during missions for even more bonuses. Do this by chasing and destroying a Rival Prospector Drone – or find a rival Data Deposit, hack it and recover the data cell inside.”
What makes the launch of the new game on PS4 and PS5 a little more special is that it will be available to download and play for free on PlayStation release day.
If you have a PlayStation Plus subscription, you can download and play Deep Rock on January 4 at no extra cost.
The deal is valid all month and comes with other free games, including the following:
