Nintendo Switch fans could see the Rogue Squadron series return in 2022
Nintendo Switch gamers may have figured out what the House of Mario has in store for them in 2022. This year will be a packed 12 months for Switch fans, with Nintendo confirming that plenty of high-profile titles will be making their way to the popular hybrid consoles. Games such as The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, Splatoon 3, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Bayonetta 3, Triangle Strategy, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp and others are coming to Switch in 2022.
But that is not everything! Twitter user @LeakyPanda (formerly known as Vandal Leaks) has reportedly leaked some of the unannounced games to be revealed in 2022.
And an iconic series from the N64 and Nintendo GameCube days could be making a comeback on Nintendo Switch.
That series is Rogue Squadron, which features the Star Wars dogfight game that first debuted on the Nintendo 64 in 1998.
The game LucasArts and Factor 5 was a critical and commercial hit, spawning a spiritual successor to Episode 1 for the N64, and two numbered sequels on the GameCube.
The last time the series appeared was in 2003 when Rogue Squadron 3 Rebel Strike was launched for the GameCube.
Since then, the series has been on ice, with no new Rogue Squadron games for nearly two decades.
But that could all change soon, with LeakyPanda claiming that Rogue Squadron 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch – and that it’s being made by Crysis developer Crytek.
It has also been claimed that there is a new Mario Kart game and a spin-off of Xenoblade will also be announced in 2022.
Speaking of which, LeakyPanda tweeted: “*NEW* Games expected to be revealed this year? Heard of: Nintendo -Xenoblade side-game (action/adventure) -Rogue Squadron IV (dev Crytek) – Mariokart 10/Crossroads (exposed to both names, unsure of the last one. Contains multiple IPs) -Pikmin title (dev Next Level Games)”.
The leaker then added: “*NEW* Games expected to be revealed this year? Heard of: BNE -Gundam Breaker 4 -Pokken Tournament 2 (NS exclusive) -Klonoa Reverie (NS console exclusive) Koei Tecmo -Ninja Gaiden- Title -Age of Sigmar Warriors (Exclusive XB Console, XBGP) Capcom -Necrokalipse (FPS New IP)”.
Of course, as with all rumours, it’s best to take these claims with a grain of salt until official confirmation.
But some of these claims are piling up with other leaks that have emerged.
For example, in the run-up to Christmas, it was revealed that Bandai Namco had registered trademarks for the beloved platform series Klonoa.
The first Klonoa game debuted on the PS1 in 1997, while other games in the series appeared on the Bandai Wonderswan, the PS2, and the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo Wii.
The last Klonoa game was the 2008 Wii remake of the first game in the Klonoa series – Door to Phantomile.
