PlayStation VR2 Officially Launched at CES 2022

PlayStation VR2 - Officially Launched at CES 2022

Company chairman Jim Ryan presented the PlayStation VR2 (yes, that’s the official name) for PS5 last night at CES 2022. The control devices are therefore PlayStation VR2 Sense Controllers.

On the tech side, eye tracking is on board, as well as responsive feedback, 4K HDR, improved rendering and a wider field of view. The PlayStation blog writes about these characteristics:

  • Visual precision: For a great visual experience, PS VR2 features 4K HDR, a 110degree field of view and a coarser view of the peripheral display area. With an OLED display, gamers can expect a screen resolution of 2000 x 2040 pixels and a frame rate of 90/120 Hz.
  • Headsetbased controller tracking: With the insideout tracking feature, the PS VR2 tracks you and your controllers through cameras integrated into the VR headset. Your movements and lines of sight are reproduced ingame without the need for an external camera.
  • New sensory functions: PS VR2 Sense technology combines eye tracking, headset feedback, 3D audio and the innovative PS VR2 Sense controller to give players an immersive experience. Headset feedback is a new sensory feature that increases the perception of actions in the game. Feedback comes from the vibrations of a single builtin motor, giving players a more interactive gaming experience. Players can now feel various impressions, such as a figure’s increased heart rate at tense moments, the draft of objects flying past the figure, or the thrust of a vehicle when starting. In addition, Tempest 3D AudioTech enhances the new sense of immersion on the PS5 by bringing the sounds around the player to life.
  • follow eye: With eye tracking, the PS VR2 detects eye movements, so a simple glance in one direction can generate additional interactions for the character. This allows players to communicate more intuitively and realistically. This leads to an improvement in emotional response and expression, providing a new level of realism in the game area.

Horizon: Call of the Mountains was also announced by Guerrilla Games and Firesprite and the first material was shown:
