Will Xbox Series X games upgrade help rival PS5 hardware boost?

The Xbox Game Pass will be expanded significantly in 2022, starting with brand new releases on day one.

As confirmed by Ubisoft earlier this week, Rainbow Six Extraction will be available to download on Xbox One and Xbox Series X via Xbox Game Pass.

Day One releases for the Xbox Game Pass are not rare and usually include all of Microsoft’s first-party exclusives.

But this time, Ubisoft is teaming up with Microsoft to launch the new Rainbow Six experience in a very accessible way.

As the official announcement confirms: “When it releases on January 20, 2022, Xbox Game Pass members will be able to take on this intense, thrilling and unpredictable PvE co-op experience alone or in squads of up to three players to take on dynamic raids.

“Rainbow Six Extraction is a tactical co-op FPS that brings an all-new squad-based PvE experience to the millions of players in the Rainbow Six universe and beyond.

“But that’s not all – Rainbow Six fans on PC will be happy to hear that Rainbow Six Siege will also be available with PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate starting January 20th.

“With Rainbow Six Siege already available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members on console and cloud, fans can brush up on their tactical shooting skills in anticipation of the release of Rainbow Six Extraction. And players who play both Siege and Extraction can unlock the epic gear from the United Front Bundle.”

So not only is a new Rainbow Six game coming to Xbox Game Pass later this month, but Ubisoft is also extending the original Siege experience to the PC Game Pass.

When you consider how popular the franchise has proven in the past and continues to be on PC and consoles, it shows Microsoft’s commitment to keeping Sony under pressure.

And rightly so, because the maker of PlayStation 5 is also planning serious upgrades to its own platform.

With rumors suggesting that a new PS Plus hybrid subscription will combine with PlayStation Now, Sony is also working on the PlayStation VR2.

The new virtual reality experience will be more powerful and accessible than the first headset and will build on an already exclusive PlayStation experience.

The PSVR is known as one of the best and most affordable headsets on the market, and its successor is expected to continue to grow the platform.

And since no such feature is available on Xbox, the PS5 is about to get a massive exclusive upgrade in a year or so.

So with Microsoft starting the year with a bang and delivering new games to Xbox Game Pass so quickly, can it hope to compete against something as exciting as VR?

The Xbox Game Pass has quickly become a popular service that continues to excite fans and there is no doubt that adding more great games to it will increase fans’ affection for it.

It seems likely that both Xbox’s Game Pass and Sony’s new VR experience will help the console market grow in the coming years by creating and building video game experiences that are hard to beat.
