Sony to unveil Game Pass competition “Project Spartacus” next week

It’s been quiet around Project Spartacus for a long time, hasn’t it? That will change very soon, when na Bloomberg goes. Authors Jason Schreier and Takashi Mochizuki report that the new subscription service will be unveiled next week.

Bloomberg also previously reported that Project Spartacus would launch in the spring as a response to Xbox Game Pass. The plans for this have been circulating in the media since December. At the start there should be “a string of game hits from the past few years”.

The core of the service is a catalog of modern and classic games for a monthly fee. So basically what the Xbox Game Pass offers. The service will also merge the two previous subscription models PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now. So pawn sacrifice would be PlayStation Now.

It is not expected, Bloomberg reports again, that from day one the current games will also be in the subscription service. God of War: Ragnarok for subscription launch? Rather not.

Three subscription levels with different values

In December, Bloomberg reported the following plans: In the first phase, users will receive the existing PlayStation Plus benefits. A second level would offer a large catalog of PS4 and PS5 games. And the third level also brings demos, streaming and a library of classics from PSone to PS3 and PSP.

Whether these plans are still current will become clear next week. By the way, Xbox’s Phil Spencer has long anticipated a project from a PlayStation competitor. It’s “the right answer,” Spencer said a few weeks ago.

Delivering stuff on PC, delivering stuff on console and delivering stuff in the cloud is the right answer. Make them available as a subscription on the first day. “And I expect our competitor will too,” Spencer said. Except for the “day one” thing if you believe Bloomberg…
