Nomura reveals new details about Quadratum, Sora’s visuals and the narrator

The week after a big announcement like Kingdom Hearts IV the developers often answer questions from the local press. In the case of Kingdom Hearts IV, it’s Tetsuya Nomura, who is of course the big one famitsu answered some questions.

The Famitsu were initially interested in Quadratum, the world set in Kingdom Hearts IV. We also see an area in the trailer that resembles Shibuya. But Nomura said it’s not a world we know, while dismissing speculation that that world is somehow connected to The World Ends with You. Nomura is also forced to deny any connection to Stranger of Paradise.

Shibuya and Aoyama

However, Shibuya is part of Quadratum, as is Aoyama. The apartment in which Sora wakes up on a couch in the trailer is also located in this part of town. “This room will serve as a base at the start of the game,” explains Nomura.

When asked how Quadratum works as an alternate world, Nomura replied, “From each of our perspectives, our perceptions change.” From Sora’s point of view, Quadratum is an underworld, a fictional world different from reality.

reality from perspectives

“But from the point of view of the residents on the Quadratum side, the world of Quadratum is the reality, and the world Sora and the others were in is the other side, the fictional world.” The theme of this project will be the “contrast between those who are in such different positions”. Interesting – and of course quite cryptic.

The Famitsu also questioned Nomura about the brief scene where Goofy and Donald search for Sora. “Donald and Goofy are looking for clues about Sora in the original world,” he explains. He also hints that Sora’s realistic imagery is due to the world of Quadratum and that this could change in other worlds: “All real life scenes before the title is displayed [im Trailer] his quadrum segments and Sora will look realistic, but if he can go back to the original world he will look like Donald and Goofy with shaders.”

The narrator

The narrator from the trailer is also of particular interest. Famitsu noted that it is the same voice actor who commented on the Missing-Link trailer. Nomura agrees, noting that even though it’s the same person, he should change his voice a bit. Apparently, it’s going to be an important person for Kingdom Hearts IV: “This character is present throughout the series, but it’s the first time he’s been dubbed,” says Nomura.
