Design Issues A Cool Boss Brings

Recent articles

Square Enix bridges time until the sequel of Final Fantasy VII Remake on the Japanese Twitter account with beautiful works of art and interesting facts. This time is about one of the bosses in the game.

Minor spoilers of course. But since you’re here, you probably know him too. Final Fantasy VII Remake has been available for over two years now. We’re talking about Eligor!

Eligor already existed in original, where you could (rarely) also find him in the railway cemetery. His impressive appearance in the remake is a bit more concise.

Square Enix explains in the tweet that it is a kind of chariot. However, Eligor always floats a little in the air. His unique design would have helped the team find the best way to animate him.

Also in Final Fantasy VII Remake Material Ultimania* these issues are addressed. A cool boss is probably not the dream of 3D artists and battle designers at the same time. “It looks like a chariot, except the back half of the horse’s body forms the carriage, and even when it’s on the ground it still floats a bit,” explains chief combat designer Kosuke Sakane.

“We struggled to figure out how it could even move, let alone attack, with such a unique body structure,” Sakane continues.

The artwork also shows a size comparison between Cloud and Eligor, but that will look familiar to you once you’ve played the game. In addition, the individual parts of the opponent are described in detail. Particular attention is paid to the connection between the horse’s hip and the carriage.

Do you want more artworks and facts? So far, Square Enix has covered the restrooms at Shinra’s headquarters, the taste of Chocobo popcorn, and the cost of a LOVELESS ticket, among other things. It also has a legendary boss dedicated to it, just like Tifa and her shorts. Recently there was a look at the Mako range in remote areas and at the Materia Shop in Wallmarkt.
