At yesterday’s Monster Hunter Digital Event, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Yoshitake Suzuki gave fans their deepest look yet Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreakincluding a new actionpacked trailer and more details about the game itself. The duo revealed three additional monsters, the new Change Swap Art ability, the new tracking missions and more information about the powerful Elder Dragon Malzeno. In addition, a new one has become breathtakingly beautiful Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Malzenothemed Nintendo Switch Pro Controller released alongside the massive expansion when it releases for Nintendo Switch on June 30, 2022 and will be released via Steam for PC.

Known as the “Thousand Blades Wyvern”, the flying wyvern seregions are making a triumphant comeback in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak This incredibly territorial foe is known for his breakneck flight maneuvers and sharp shaving scales that cover his body. Careless fighters who fail to notice when Seregios loses their scales risk getting a Bleeding status. Therefore, they always have to sharpen not only their weapons, but also their minds. In addition to the returning monsters that appear in master Rank quests and have new skills and behaviors, the new expansion also introduces two new subspecies in Monster Hunter Rise. The newly revealed Auroracanth emits a steady icy fog that threatens to freeze everything in its vicinity. However, this also allows it to skilfully glide across the ice during the hunt and take down its prey with its powerful ice breath. The Magma Almudron, on the other hand, enjoys the scorching heat of Lava Caverns, adding molten rock to its attacks to overwhelm and put potential fighters in their place.

While all monsters are more than capable of bringing fighters to their knees, Elder Dragon Malzeno manages to turn entire kingdoms to dust. Malzeno commands a mysterious swarm of parasitic creatures that first capture their prey and then absorb its energy. When challenged to a personal battle, the Elder Dragon responds with a grace and ruthlessness that proves he’s worthy of the creature that inspired him: the vampire. As soon as it ravages its prey with “blood plague” status, a duel ensues, whose life energy runs out first. If the fighters fail, Malzeno will evolve into a much worse form, wreaking havoc on surviving enemies.

To face these new deadly powers, fighters arriving at Outpost Elgado must develop new combat strategies. While Kamura is known for his unique string moves and accompanying Silkbinder Attack and Wyvern riding, fighters called to the kingdom will learn new Switching Arts abilities, as well as the Switching Arts special ability. The Swap Arts ability allows fighters to assign Swap Arts to two different gear, which can be swapped out on the fly as if they were on the fly. This new flexibility to choose the right skill for the respective hunting situation allows hunters to overcome almost any hurdle. Hunters attacked while using the Switch Art ability can also use Swap Dodge to dodge the threat of an attack in any direction, or move for a followup attack. Short informative videos about the new alternating skills for the 14 weapon types will be available to interested fighters on the official social media channels from May 16.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak also adds new ways for players to become even closer to the game’s charming characters with Follower Quests. These single player hunts allow players to accept specific missions and complete them along with their favorite story characters. Each follower has its own specialization and will also help players recover their health and set traps. In addition, the followers can also ride on monsters and thus change the outcome of a battle for the better. Elgado Outpost members like Fiorayne, Luchika, Jae, Galleus and Arlow will be available as followers, in addition to Kamura members like Hinoa or Minoto. Players can unlock followers as they progress through the story and also earn unique rewards for completing tracking missions.
